Abstract

In the academic bibliography can be find a variety of explanations on why to purchase the services of the Klein-Saks firm by Chile in the mid of 1955. This paper addresses the importance of international actors as an explanatory variable of this event, being the aim to examine the participation of the US government and the international financial organizations in the hiring process of the Klein-Saks Mission by the Carlos Ibáñez del Campo’s administration. It’s argued that the US government and the international financial organizations pressured the Ibáñez administration, since at least 1954, to solve the inflation situation y hire experts for it. In addition, from the United Sates there wasn’t explicit or direct recommendations for Chile to hire specifically the Klein-Saks firm.
